Asylum By Madeleine Roux

Asylum (Asylum, #1)Asylum by Madeleine Roux
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

"Featuring found photos of unsettling history and real abandoned asylums and filled with chilling mystery and page-turning suspense, Madeleine Roux's teen debut, Asylum, is a horror story that treads the line between genius and insanity."

Unfortunately, it delivered non of these things.

The main characters were rubbish.
I didn't feel anything for any of them. They could have all been killed in the book and i wouldn't have cared.

The book was slow, dull, predictable, and not creepy at all. I lost all hope of it getting better at the halfway mark.
A few people said to me that the pictures were really creepy, but i just found them weird.

I was relieved when i looked at the page count and seen it was only short, but i was even more relieved when i got to the ending!

Overall, rubbish.
I thought the authors other book Allison Hewitt Is Trapped looked quite good, but i'm having serious doubts about it after this.

The Killing Woods By Lucy Christopher

The Killing WoodsThe Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Killing Woods was better than the authors other book, Stolen: A Letter to My Captor, but it wasn't great.

I felt really sorry for Emily in the beginning.
Everybody was taking her dad's arrest out on her, and it wasn't fair. Even if what everybody was saying was true, and her dad was stalking Ashlee prior to killing her, she still didn't deserve the backlash from it.

This started out okay, but after a couple of chapters it started to go a bit slow.
In the middle, it really started to drag, so i got quite bored.

I'm glad the identity of the killer wasn't as predictable as i thought it would be, but i was more interested in finishing the book than i was about finding out who it was.

Overall, an okay read, but really dragged in the middle.

My Life After Now By Jessica Verdi

My Life After NowMy Life After Now by Jessica Verdi
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Actual Rating - 3.5

My Life After Now was a good read, but the middle dragged.

Lucy was an okay character, but some of the choices she made after her diagnosis weren't very sensible.
I really liked her at the end though, because she started to stand up for herself.
I couldn't stand her boyfriend, and i wondered many times why she was with him! He was self centered, and a huge idiot.

This did drag in the middle a bit, but it picked itself up again, so it wasn't a major issue.

Overall, Good, but had a few slow/annoying/predictable moments.

The Merciless By Danielle Vega

The Merciless (The Merciless, #1)The Merciless by Danielle Vega
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 2.5

The Merciless wasn't a very good read unfortunately.

Sofia annoyed me most of the time, and i really didn't understand why she'd get a piercing just because someone she hardly knew told her too. She then took it out as soon as she got home, and didn't put it in again.. so what was the point?!
Brooklyn was annoying, and so was Riley and the other girls. Their constant talk about getting rid of the demon and doing it for God got annoying after a few chapters.
The only character that was sane, and the only one that i actually liked, wasn't in it that much!

This book was more boring than scary unfortunately. I felt sorry for the poor cat at the beginning, and the cockroach thing was gross, but everything else didn't creep me out at all.

Overall, not scary, had rubbish characters, and felt longer than what it was.

If He Had Been With Me By Laura Nowlin

If He Had Been with MeIf He Had Been with Me by Laura Nowlin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 2.5

If He Had Been with Me looked really good, and i was looking forward to it.
Unfortunately though, it was boring.

Autumn and Finn were both okay characters, but i didn't warm to them enough to like them.
The other characters weren't very good either.

Nothing really happened in this, and the pacing was slow, so i was bored for the majority of it.
I kept hoping the book would pick up, but it didn't until the end....but the ending also really annoyed me!
It wasn't a concrete ending, and i really hate endings like that. I wanted to know what happened to Autumn after the previous events, but it just ended.

Overall, slow, with a poor ending.

Linger By Maggie Stiefvater

Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2)Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I didn't like this one as much as the first one.

The characters were okay, but i didn't like Grace as much as i did in the first book.
Some of the things she did was a bit petty. I understand she was pissed off at her mum, but when someone passed her mum a slice of pizza, she said to herself that she wouldn't have given her any. I thought it was petty, and quite selfish.

Linger suffered from middle book syndrome. Not a lot happened, and when it did it wasn't that exciting, and it was just too slow.
Shiver was quite slow too, but it wan't as boring as this one.

Overall, slow.

Blackout By Mira Grant

Blackout (Newsflesh Trilogy, #3)Blackout by Mira Grant
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I am so glad this series is over!!

I'm glad this one wasn't from Shaun's point of view.
I can't say that i really like Georgia, but she's better than Shaun!

This one was just the same as the previous two.
There was too much information, it was too slow, and it had nothing in it that i found interesting.

I was so relieved when the ending came! So glad there's no more books in the series!

Overall, boring.

One Moment By Kristina McBride

One MomentOne Moment by Kristina McBride
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 2.5

One Moment was quite slow.

Maggie was an okay character, but she did annoy me at times.
It took her a while to work out what was going on with Joey, even though it was quite obvious.

The storyline was okay, but it was slow.
The first few chapters were fine, but after that, it started to really drag.

Overall, An alright read, but it dragged a bit too much.

The Secrets of Lily Graves By Sarah Strohmeyer

The Secrets of Lily GravesThe Secrets of Lily Graves by Sarah Strohmeyer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Secrets of Lily Graves was a good read!

I liked Lily.
She didn't give up on finding Erin's killer, even though they parted on bad terms.... and she didn't stop wearing what she wanted to wear, just because people thought it was weird, and inappropriate.
I felt quite sorry for her when she was getting all the blame!

The ending really surprised me! I didn't expect that at all!

Overall, a good murder mystery.

Deadline By Mira Grant

Deadline (Newsflesh Trilogy, #2)Deadline by Mira Grant
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Deadline was about the same as Feed.

Shaun annoyed me in this book even more than he did in the last.
The other characters were alright, but i can't say i loved any of them.

This was really information heavy just like it was in book one, so it really dragged.
Anything "interesting" that happened, didn't interest me enough to like it.

The ending was okay, but it wasn't really unexpected for me.

Overall, slow, boring and quite predictable.

Feed By Mira Grant

Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy #1)Feed by Mira Grant
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Feed really dragged!

Georgia was an okay character, but she annoyed me a few times.

I didn't like Shaun in the beginning. He was such an idiot!
Who plays with zombies?! It doesn't matter how slow they are, it's a really stupid thing to do. I thought he was a lot younger than Georgia because of that, so i was really shocked when it was revealed that they were the same age!
He did get better as the story progressed, but i still can't say i liked him.

The pacing in this was slow, and just too information heavy for me. It really dragged because of it!
I like zombie novels to have action in them, and a little information about how the virus came about.
This one was just information after information, with a bit of action thrown in there.

Overall, Slow and boring.

Delicate By Steph Campbell

DelicateDelicate by Steph Campbell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Delicate was a good read.

I liked Sydney.
She always stuck by her dad and sister, even though it meant that her plans always fell through, and she knew Trevor wouldn't be best pleased.
It annoyed me when she apologized to him for hurting her, but i get that this is usual behavior in abusive relationships, so it didn't make me like her any less.

I really liked Grant.
He was so thoughtful and sweet, and i really liked and His and Sydney's relationship.

The ending was sweet, and i was really happy for Sydney.

Overall, a good read with likable characters. (All expect Trevor, anyway.)

Captivate By Carrie Jones

Captivate (Need, #2)Captivate by Carrie Jones
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 2.5

I was hoping this would be better than Need, but unfortunately, it wasn't.

Zara annoyed me in the last book, and she annoyed me just as much in this one.
She continued to chant phobias like she did in book one, but thankfully, she didn't do it as much in this one.

The book just bored me, and i couldn't get interested in it at all. When the "interesting" things happened, i didn't really care.
The only thing that i liked was the ending - Not what happened at the end, just the fact that i had finished.

Overall, Slow, dull, and had an annoying main character.

Conjured By Sarah Beth Durst

ConjuredConjured by Sarah Beth Durst
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 2.5

Conjured felt about 600 pages long!

I felt sorry for Eve, because most of the time she had no clue what was going on.. but because of her being confused all the time, i couldn't warm to her enough to like her.

The pacing in this was just way too slow for me. It took ages to get answers, and because of that, i was just as confused as Eve was!
It felt like i had read for hours when i was about a quarter of the way in, so when i got to the the end, it was a huge relief.

Overall, slow, dull, confusing.

Ghost Town By Rachel Caine

Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires, #9)Ghost Town by Rachel Caine
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ghost Town was another dull read.

I didn't like the characters in this one. I swear, they lose brain cells with every book.
I really don't know how Eve is still alive. She argued with Amelie again in this book, which is a really stupid thing to do!

The pacing in this was slow, and by the second chapter i was bored.
There was a bit of action in this, but most of it was a bit silly, and i wasn't very interested in it.

Overall, boring.

Shutdown By Heather Anastasiu

Shutdown (Glitch, #3)Shutdown by Heather Anastasiu
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Shutdown was worse than the other two.

Zoe annoyed me in the other books at times, but at other times she was an okay character.
However, in this one she just annoyed me.

In the previous books, the pacing could be quite slow, but I still liked them.
In this one, I was just bored. Not only was the 'interesting' things unintersting, they were also ridiculous.

Overall, dull, ridiculous, worst one in the series.

Override (Glitch, #2)Override by Heather Anastasiu

I liked Override about the same as Glitch.

Zoe was an okay character, but she annoyed me a bit more than she did in the first one.
The other characters were alright, but i can't say i loved any of them.

The pacing was slow in this one again, and there was a few parts where i was bored.
Thankfully, it never stayed like that all the time, so i still liked it.

Overall, an okay read.

Those parts never came very often though, thankfully!

I really didn't like Max. I couldn't trust him, and he was quite creepy!

The storyline was good, but the pacing could be really slow at times, so it could drag.

Overall, an alright sci-fi

Let the Sky Fall By Shannon Messenger

Let the Sky Fall (Let the Sky Fall, #1)Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Let the Sky Fall looked good, but unfortunately, it was only good for making me sleepy.

The characters were okay, but they could be quite annoying!
Vane could be immature at times, and didn't take anything seriously. I get that hearing you're not human, and learning what you are would get you thinking "Are you serious?" and taking everything Audra said with a pinch of salt.... but when she shown him what he could do, he should have started to listen to her, and take things seriously.
I wouldn't like hearing that i'd soon have to cut food out completely, and i'd have to get up really early to train... but if i knew i had to do it, i would. Vane on the other hand, was being a child about it - Telling her that he refused to get up so early to train. Grow up, Vane!
Audra was also quite annoying, but she didn't annoy me as much as Vane did.

The pacing in this was a bit slow for me, and i was bored for the majority of it.
When something happened, i still felt bored.

Overall, slow, dull, had annoying characters.
Can't say i'm looking forward to book two.

Let the Storm Break (Let the Sky Fall, #2)Let the Storm Break by Shannon Messenger
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 1.75

Let the Storm Break was worse than Let the Sky Fall, and that's saying something.

I was really hoping it would be better than book one - even if it was a tiny tiny bit... but it was not to be.
The characters were even more annoying than they were in book one, the pacing was slower, and it was just as dull.

I'm not carrying on with the series, because i can't take any more of it!

Overall, dull.

Fire & Flood By Victoria Scott

Fire & Flood (Fire & Flood, #1)Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 1.5

Ugh, this book.

 photo tumblr_lp6ecqWKs51qgz41g.gif

The main character was the main reason why i hated this book so much.
Seriously, Tella.

 photo tumblr_ly38jsAahv1qby61eo1_500.gif

She was stupid and annoying, and i wanted to punch her many times.
She took tablets that she knew nothing about, wasted water, and was generally just an idiot.

The other characters weren't any better unfortunately.
They weren't quite as bad as Tella, but they were still pretty annoying.

The pacing in this was slow, and i just couldn't get interested in it.

Overall, boring and had annoying characters.
The only way this book would have been better is if the main character died on page 2.

One Breath Away By Heather Gudenkauf

One Breath AwayOne Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One Breath Away was a really good read!

Augie was really brave, but she was also really stupid.
I get that she wanted to go and save her brother, but running into the classroom where the gunman was, is not a very good idea!

I didn't like Mrs Oliver at first, but as the story progressed, i loved her. She was such a strong character!

At first, it was quite confusing as there was loads of POV's, but i got used to them after a while. The confusion was probably one of the main reasons why i didn't like it until around 30%.
After that, i really enjoyed it.

The suspense was killing me, i really wanted to find out who the gunman was!
It was so hard to guess who it was, because one minute i'd think it was someone, then a couple of chapters later, the suspect changed!

Overall, suspenseful, strong characters, a good read!

Breaking Free By S.M. Koz

Breaking FreeBreaking Free by S.M. Koz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

(A copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.)

Breaking Free was an okay read, but at times it dragged.

Kelsie wasn't a very likable character to begin with. She didn't really care about the other people in the camp, and was quite selfish when it came to completing her punishment.
Luckily, she stopped being so self centered, and i started to like her near the end.

I really liked JC, and the mystery surrounding what happened to him kept me interested - Although, it could be a bit confusing at times!

The pacing could be quite slow at times, so there was some parts that really bored me.
If the pacing was a bit faster, and it didn't take me as long to warm to Kelsie as it did, this would have most likely been a 4 star rating.

Overall, alright, but cold have done with being a bit faster.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Actual rating - 4.5

Stray was a really good read!

I loved Faythe. She was strong, kickass and really funny.
There was a few parts where she could be slightly annoying, because of how stubborn she was... but because of all her other characteristics, it didn't bother me all that much.

The pacing in this could be quite slow in the first half, and my rating at that point was 3.25.
The second half was really, really good though! I couldn't put it down!

Overall, great read! One of my favorites for 2014.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer By Michelle Hodkin

The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2)The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The Evolution of Mara Dyer was an okay read, but it was a bit too slow.

I felt sorry for Mara because of everything she went through, but i couldn't warm to her enough to like her.
Noah was an alright character, but i couldn't warm to him that much either.

The main problem i have with this series, is how confusing it is. You don't know what's real and what's not. If it's a delusion, or if what Mara is seeing is real.
Some people may like that, but i just find it really annoying.

The ending was quite good, but the rest of it dragged.
I found it very hard to get through at some points because of how slow it was!

Overall, okay, but quite confusing and slow.

She did get better near the end, but not by much unfortunately.

The pacing was just a bit too slow for me.

Overall, alright, but uneventful.

Fade Out By Rachel Caine

Fade Out (The Morganville Vampires, #7)Fade Out by Rachel Caine
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Fade Out was another boring one in the series unfortunately.

Claire, Eve, Shane and Michael were alright characters in this one, but again, i can't see why i loved them last time.
I couldn't decide if Eve having a go at Amelie was more brave or stupid. Probably the latter!

The pacing in this one was just a bit too slow for me, and i couldn't get interested in anything that happened.

Overall, slow and boring.
Hopefully the next book picks the series up a bit.

Carpe Corpus wasn't awful, but it wasn't that great either.

The characters had some moments where i liked them, but other times they really annoyed me.
I was starting to see why i loved the characters the first time i read it, but i'm now wondering why i liked them so much again!

The pacing in this one was quite slow, and the interesting bit didn't interest me that much.

This series is like a roller coaster - It's constantly going up and down! One book is rubbish, the next book is great, then the next one is rubbish again!

Overall, alright, but not the best in the series.

Lord of Misrule By Rachel Caine

Lord of Misrule (The Morganville Vampires, #5)Lord of Misrule by Rachel Caine

The beginning of Lord of Misrule was dragging a bit, but the rest was great!

The characters haven't been as good as i remembered them to be so far, but it's starting to change! With each book, they're getting more like the characters i loved.

When the slow patch at the start went, it became really good. There was loads of action, and i had a hard time putting it down.

Overall, a great reread. The series is starting to get really good now!
